4. Thư động lực và phỏng vấn

Nhiều trường yêu cầu ứng viên nộp thư động lực (Motivation Letter) hoặc tham gia phỏng vấn.

Đây là cơ hội để bạn thể hiện:

  • Vì sao lựa chọn ngành Thời trang.
  • Lý do chọn Pháp.

  • Fashion Designer.
  • Fashion Stylist.
  • Luxury Brand Executive.
  • Fashion Buyer.
  • Product Developer.
  • Fashion Marketing Executive.
  • Fashion Communication Specialist.
  • Visual Merchandiser.
  • Trend Forecaster.
  • Creative Director.

France is not only recognized as the fashion capital of the world, but also a dream destination for thousands of international students pursuing fields such as Fashion Design, Fashion Business, Fashion Marketing, Brand Management, and Luxury Management.

In addition to its world-class education system, one of the main reasons students choose to study in France is its more affordable tuition and living costs compared to many English-speaking countries. Moreover, an increasing number of English-taught degree programs allow international students to access a prestigious French education without being fluent in French from the very beginning.

However, to build an effective study plan, it is essential to understand the overall cost of studying in France, admission requirements, career prospects, and expected salaries after graduation.

Cost of Studying Fashion in France (2026/2027)

The cost of studying in France depends on the type of institution, degree program, and city you choose.

Public universities are heavily subsidized by the French government, while private fashion schools and Grandes Écoles generally charge higher tuition fees in exchange for state-of-the-art facilities, smaller class sizes, and extensive industry connections.

Can International Students Work Part-Time?

Yes.

Under current French regulations, international students are allowed to work up to approximately 964 hours per year, equivalent to around 20 hours per week during the academic year.

Common part-time jobs include:

  • Fashion retail assistant
  • Restaurant or café staff
  • Sales assistant
  • Private tutor
  • Paid internships

For Fashion students, many universities and fashion schools also provide internship opportunities with fashion brands, luxury houses, design studios, and creative agencies, allowing students to gain valuable industry experience while earning additional income.

Entry Requirements for Studying Fashion in France

Each institution has its own admission criteria, but most evaluate applicants based on academic performance, language proficiency, and creative potential.

1. Academic Requirements

Bachelor's Degree

  • High school diploma (or equivalent)
  • A GPA of 7.0/10 or above is considered an advantage

Master's Degree

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant or closely related field
  • A clear academic and career development plan

2. Language Requirements

For English-taught programs

  • IELTS 6.0–6.5
  • Some competitive programs require IELTS 7.0

For French-taught programs

  • DELF or DALF at B2 level

Today, many leading fashion schools in France offer English-taught programs. Nevertheless, learning French remains a significant advantage when applying for internships and full-time positions.

3. Portfolio

A strong portfolio is one of the most important components for design-related programs.

A competitive portfolio should demonstrate:

  • Observation skills
  • Creative thinking
  • Idea development process
  • Understanding of color and composition
  • Ability to communicate stories through design

Rather than focusing on the number of projects, admissions committees usually value the evolution of your design thinking and creative process more than technically perfect drawings.

4. Motivation Letter & Interview

Many institutions require applicants to submit a Motivation Letter and/or attend an admissions interview.

This is your opportunity to explain:

  • Why you chose Fashion as your field of study
  • Why you want to study in France
  • Your long-term career goals
  • The values and creative vision you hope to pursue

A thoughtfully written Motivation Letter can make a significant difference, particularly when applying to highly competitive fashion schools.

Career Opportunities After Graduation

The fashion industry extends far beyond fashion design. It offers career opportunities across the entire value chain, from product development to branding, marketing, and retail.

Graduates may pursue careers such as:

  • Fashion Designer
  • Fashion Stylist
  • Luxury Brand Executive
  • Fashion Buyer
  • Product Developer
  • Fashion Marketing Executive
  • Fashion Communication Specialist
  • Visual Merchandiser
  • Trend Forecaster
  • Creative Director

In addition to fashion brands, graduates may also work in cosmetics, retail, media, e-commerce, luxury goods, or even establish their own fashion labels.

Professionals specializing in Luxury Brand Management, Fashion Marketing, or International Fashion Business may earn considerably higher salaries, particularly when working for major luxury groups such as LVMH, Kering, or Hermès.

Can You Stay in France After Graduation?

Yes. After completing an eligible degree, international graduates may apply for a residence permit that allows them to stay in France to seek employment or start a business, in accordance with French government regulations.

This period provides valuable opportunities to:

  • Secure full-time employment
  • Transition to a work visa
  • Build a long-term career in France or elsewhere in Europe

Your chances of remaining in France after graduation increase significantly if you have completed internships, possess strong French language skills, and have built professional networks during your studies.

Tips to Improve Your Admission Chances

If you are planning to study in France or pursue an English-taught degree in France, it is recommended to begin preparing your application 8–12 months before the intended intake.

Priority tasks include:

  • Building a strong portfolio
  • Improving your IELTS or French language proficiency
  • Writing a personalized Motivation Letter
  • Researching each school's curriculum and teaching approach
  • Exploring scholarships and financial aid opportunities

Early preparation not only improves your chances of admission but also increases your opportunities to receive scholarships or tuition reductions.
