- Kinh tế – Quản lý;
- Luật;
- Khoa học xã hội và nhân văn;
- Ngôn ngữ;
- Công nghệ;
- Khoa học tự nhiên;
- Công nghệ thông tin;
- Kỹ thuật;
- Y – Dược;
- Nghệ thuật;
- Giáo dục;
- Chương trình giảng dạy hoàn toàn bằng tiếng Pháp;
- Chương trình hoàn toàn bằng tiếng Anh;
- Chương trình song ngữ;
- Chương trình quốc tế;

Public University Tuition Fees in France 2026–2027: Updated Costs for Studying in France
Are Public University Tuition Fees in France Expensive in 2026–2027?
When planning to study in France, tuition fees are naturally one of the main concerns for both students and parents. Compared with many countries that offer high-quality higher education, France stands out thanks to the significant financial support provided by the French government, particularly for public higher education institutions.
However, there is one important update compared with many older articles: international students from outside the European Union do not always pay the same tuition fees as French or EU students.
Under France's differentiated tuition fee policy for non-EU students, tuition at public institutions may be higher than the fees charged to French and EU students. At the same time, many universities choose to exempt international students from all or part of these differentiated fees, depending on the institution and the specific academic program.
Therefore, if you are planning to study in France in 2026–2027, you should not rely solely on the older tuition figures of €170 or €243, which still appear in many outdated publications.
What Makes Public Universities in France Unique?
The French higher education system includes several types of institutions, with public universities (universités publiques) playing a central role.
Public universities offer programs across a broad range of disciplines, including:
- Economics and Management;
- Law;
- Humanities and Social Sciences;
- Languages;
- Technology;
- Natural Sciences;
- Computer Science;
- Engineering;
- Medicine and Pharmacy;
- Arts;
- Education;
- Research;
- Many other specialized fields.
One of the major advantages of this system is that the French government heavily subsidizes higher education. According to Campus France, the actual cost of educating a student at a public university is substantially higher than the tuition fees students are required to pay. Government funding significantly reduces the financial burden on students.
This is one of the key reasons why studying in France remains an attractive option for international students.
Latest Public University Tuition Fees in France for 2026–2027
For the 2026–2027 academic year, official tuition fees depend on several factors, including nationality, degree level, program type, and the tuition policy of each institution.
1. French, EU, EEA, and Swiss Students
For students holding citizenship from France, the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland, the official registration fees at public higher education institutions under the French Ministry of Higher Education for the 2026–2027 academic year are:
Some engineering schools and specialized programs may apply different tuition fees, so students should always verify the information directly with their chosen institution.
2. Vietnamese and Other Non-EU Students
This section is particularly important for Vietnamese students planning to study in France. Vietnam is classified as a non-EU country. Under the differentiated tuition fee policy for the 2026–2027 academic year, international students from outside the EU enrolled in eligible French public higher education institutions are subject to the following tuition fees:
It is worth noting that doctoral programs are not subject to the differentiated tuition fee policy for non-EU students. The official registration fee for doctoral studies in 2026–2027 is €398.
Why Do Many Articles Still Say That Tuition at French Public Universities Is Only Around €178–255?
This is one of the most common sources of confusion.
The tuition fees of €178 for Licence and €255 for Master's currently apply only to students from France, the EU, the EEA, and Switzerland for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Vietnamese students may instead be subject to the differentiated tuition fees for non-EU students, unless they qualify for an exemption or are granted the same tuition status as French and EU students under applicable regulations.
For this reason, anyone planning to study in France should always verify the tuition policy of each university rather than assuming a single standard tuition fee applies to all institutions.
Are Tuition Fees the Same for English-Taught Programs at Public Universities?
Not necessarily.
A public university in France may offer:
- Programs taught entirely in French;
- Programs taught entirely in English;
- Bilingual programs;
- International degree programs;
- Programs with their own specific tuition fees.
Therefore, if you are interested in studying in France in English, you should always check the tuition information provided for the specific academic program rather than relying on the university's general tuition policy.
Campus France also notes that language admission requirements vary depending on the program. For many university programs, a B2 level in the language of instruction is commonly required. Certain disciplines or programs may require a higher proficiency level or English-language test scores such as IELTS, TOEFL, or TOEIC.
